Bio

After more than 20 years of success in leadership positions with several nonprofits, Bill Corwin founded Mission Velocity in 2017. He brings a unique breadth of experience and knowledge to this work, having served as a staff leader, consultant, and board member for a wide range of organizations. Before founding Mission Velocity, Bill was most recently the VP of U.S. Programs at Save the Children, responsible for programs serving over 300,000 children annually with a staff of 700 and a budget of more than $50 million. His first nonprofit leadership role was as the executive director of a start-up with two staff and a budget of less than $100,000. In between those two positions, Bill successfully led organizations of various sizes through different stages of change and growth.

Prior to Save the Children, Bill was the President of Clarke Schools, an organization providing services to deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. He led a major organizational transition and drove successful efforts to greatly diversify Clarke’s revenues. Bill joined Clarke after serving as Chief Strategy and Development Officer with the National CASA Association, which oversees a children’s advocacy network of more than 900 local programs in the U.S. His efforts at National CASA drove an increase in annual private funding of 500%.

Other key accomplishments during the past two decades include:

  1. Leading the transformation of a midsize nonprofit toward a new core program model that tripled the number of children served and maximized new revenue opportunities.
  2. Substantially increasing resource development results and overall financial stability at each organization he has led.
  3. Advising a wide range of nonprofits on strategic planning, change management, leadership development, and strategies for achieving smart growth and funding sustainability.
  4. Playing a lead role in developing and implementing several successful new program approaches, resulting in greater mission impact and an improved business model.

Bill specializes in strategic planning, capacity building, leadership development, and program assessment and development. He also has extensive experience in meeting facilitation, board development, and resource development planning (for both donated and earned revenue) and has advised nonprofits in areas such as effective leadership, crisis management, volunteer engagement, HR matters and policy and advocacy initiatives.

Prior to his nonprofit work Bill was an attorney in private practice and with the Santa Clara County (CA) District Attorney’s Office. His legal training and experience helped him hone his analytical skills, which have been invaluable in his advisory and consulting work.

When not working Bill especially likes to be outdoors – preferably hiking, kayaking, or biking. And he has never outgrown his love of rollercoasters.
